My current home doesn't have a verandah or even a porch but I dream of owning a little farmette again, with a verandah overlooking chickens, goats and gardens. Absolute heaven!

School Lunches taste ever so yummy. Not.

I don't usually think about my Kid's lunch. He's 13, homeschooled, and able to fix what he wants. He's in a "cheesey bread" phase right now, and I assume when he wants something different, he'll make it. Or ask me to help him.

And he grabs a pear or apple for a snack whenever he feels like it. (Another reason we really need fruit trees to bear quickly here on our new homestead.)

I'm giving this school lunch situation ( ) a lot of thought. There are some "lunch ladies", administrators and others who think the school lunches are just fine. I'm not going to do with them. Some people can't be changed.

But I'm gonna do my best to give suggestions on how to improve public school lunches here in the USA because the more I think about it, the more I realize that in order to help this next generation become self-reliant, we need to give them the brains to do so. And for that to happen, we need to get them off the ritalin and insulin and so forth. That means getting them healthy. And since kids spend most of their time at school (and I'm not about to tell parents they need to do a better job of feeding their kids breakfast and dinner!), we need to fix the school lunch program.

Let's start with taste.

I don't know about your kids, but mine is a very picky eater. Yes, he's got food allergies and intolerances, but for the most part, he's picky. He's decided he doesn't want to eat much meat (eggs are ok, and pepperoni ... go figure), and he's got problems with most nuts (ok with walnuts and pecans). That means he needs to get most of his protein from beans, eggs, cheese, and vanilla goat yogurt (his all-around most favorite). Let's remember that there's protein in almost all natural foods, including fruits, veggies and whole grains.

Then there's lots of kids who don't like different foods to touch on their plate. Or to have more than a couple of ingredients at a time. Or don't like intense flavors like spicy jalapenos, sour lemon, or onions/garlic.

So much to take into account when feeding our kids!

if the majority of parents would fix breakfast and lunch for their kids we wouldnt even need this discussion. We wont even go into the fact that all KIDS should be homeeschooled.
To me the Public School Center is like a guvt paid for day care center.. Ya get what ya pay for?
