My current home doesn't have a verandah but I'd like it to! A long porch surrounding the entire house. With a porch swing, potted blueberry plants, and a long strong dog laying at my feet. The sweet smell of lrosemary and freshly-turned soil wafting across my yard. The chickens clucking contentedly as they scratch for goodies in the fertile dirt. Knowing we have a full root cellar, trees in the orchard about to drop their bounty, and soup made all from hand-picked harvests bubbling in the crockpot. Heaven.

Please move with me over to my current blog, www.rosemary-ridge.blogspot.com ... thank you!

Corn, Squash and Sunflowers planted

We had a busy day yesterday, here at our little 2-acre homestead. We...

-planted about 20 sunflowers
-a handful of amaranth seeds
-30 popcorn seeds
-40-50 golden bantam corn seedlings
-3 jack-o-lantern pumpkin seedlings
-4 butternut squash seedlings
-10 australian butter squash seedlings
-16 baking potatoes
-33 fingerling potatoes
-a plastic kiddie pool with lettuce, cabbage, and broccoli seedlings
-entire 2 acres mowed!

In the process, I got two big blisters on my thumbs, we all got sunburnt, and Hubby came close to heat stroke.

I'll take pictures when I get a chance.

Still.... we're not as far behind as we were two days ago! And we have lots planned to accomplish today. I really need to get the tomatoes and luffa out. Might even get some of the gourds, pumpkins and squashes planted.

I hope you are wearing a straw hat when out in the sun and drinking lots of fluid and using other precautions in this warm weather.

No hat the first day and am still paying for it. Very burnt. Yesterday I had the hat but the fierce wind kept pushing it off. This morning I got up around 5:30 and worked on the hat.. added strings to tie under my chin, and a back-flap to protect my neck. Looks kinda stupid, but if it saves me pain... :) And, yes, drinking LOTS of water! Thanks. Vikki
