My current home doesn't have a verandah or even a porch but I dream of owning a little farmette again, with a verandah overlooking chickens, goats and gardens. Absolute heaven!

Our little 2 acres

I haven't talked a lot about our little 2 acres lately. So busy with my diet blog (http://veegettinghealthy.blogspot.com) and my cooking blog (http://survival-cooking.com) AND working with a newly-diagnosed autistic/OCD child ... that I'm just getting further and further behind!

On our little 2 acres here in rural Colorado, we have 4 goats. Still. One milking Nubian doe who's milk is starting to dry up. We've "sent" her on dates with a nubian behind us, but she went back in heat the other day so she spent most of yesterday with that buck again. Hope this one took!

We have 1 adult nigerian dwarf doe who also may or may not be pregnant by an Angora buck (to make the new breed: Nigora). Her half-sister is just now 10 months old and will be having a date soon with the same Angora buck. And her twin is a wether so he is just a pet!

Then the chickens! We had 17 but sold 3 so now we have 14. Out of our 6 easter egger girls, we're getting 2 green eggs, 2 brown eggs, and the other 2 pullets haven't started laying yet! The 4 black australorp pullets and 2 white plymouth rock hens give us about 2-4 eggs a day. The two roosters do their rooster duties so hopefully when a hen goes broody, we'll start her incubating some chicks! Yahoo!

All in all, daily, we get:
1 quart goat milk
3-5 fresh eggs
3-5 fresh tomatoes (from the plants I brough inside for winter)

Yummy yummy! We're making great plans for next year, so be sure to check back.

Enjoy your day!
