My current home doesn't have a verandah or even a porch but I dream of owning a little farmette again, with a verandah overlooking chickens, goats and gardens. Absolute heaven!

Harvest Time Almost Here

I'm so excited. I love when I can start harvesting what I work so hard to grow. We have several squashes that will be ready within a week (depends on how big I am willing to patiently wait for them to get!). We also have several cucumbers and tomatoes that look like they will be ready within a couple of weeks.

My 6 laying hens are producing 3-6 eggs a day. Wonder why they don't lay regularly? They get laying feed! Our chicks (ok... they are over 3 months old!) will be laying within the next month. Yummy yummy eggs! Still working up a cheap chicken coop ... we picked up some supplies last weekend and hope to get it done this coming weekend.

And my new nubian goat is producing half a gallon of beautiful white creamy milk a day. The Kid drinks a couple cups a day, and with the rest (if I can get to it before he does) I make cheese or yogurt. We're one month away from breeding one of our other goats so yes, we'll have kids being born in the barn in February. Fun fun!

I've taken pictures but just need to get them off my camera and on to here!

Good for you. My stuff is really behind.

All chickens don't lay an egg every day. Three out of six is good. The next day three different chickens lay.

Linda: I guess I got spoiled with our first laying hen as she laid 58 eggs in 60 days. I know it has to do with the breed. We're hoping at least some of our chickens continue to lay during the cold days but we know most don't. Still.. we're eating eggs tomorrow because we have so many!
